Description
This is a pen and ink drawing made to look like stained glass. The bird in front is a tufted titmouse which is a frequent winter visitor to my bird feeders. The tufted titmouse will grab a whole sunflower seed in its bill and fly to a limb and hold the seed with its feet and use its bill to break the seed open for the kernel inside. The bird in the back which is actually a little larger that the titmouse in size looks smaller because she is behind the titmouse in this picture. The downy woodpecker is the smallest woodpecker here in our eastern yards and woodland. We know the bird is a female because her markings are all black and white. The male downy woodpecker looks the same but he has a spot of red on the back of his head. This woodpecker is hanging to a ball of sunflower seeds and other birdseed held together by suet. There are directions on the internet for making these balls which are hung with strings from tree limbs.
