Description
This is a pen and ink drawing made to look like stained glass. This is a chaffinch as is found in France. This bird is mentioned in Alexandre Dumas' novel, "The Man in the Iron Mask", as being in the 'flower-spangled hedges' near the graves of Athos and Raoul. He also mentions ravenelles growing there. This book is in the last volume of the D'Artagnan Romances of which "The Three Musketeers" is the first volume.
