Description
This is a pen and ink drawing made to look like stained glass. Pictured at a sunflower feeding tray is a pair of dickcissels and a female northern cardinal. The dickcissel is a member of the cardinal family. Audubon seems to have identified it as 'Townsend's bunting'. It has also been called 'Townsend's dickcissel' or 'Townsend's finch'. Townsend was a colleague of Audubon who collected a specimen of it in 1833 in Chester County, PA. The dickcissel is more common in its breeding ground in the midwest, but occasionally wanders east toward the Mid-Atlantic states and can be seen at a feeder. They winter in Mexico, Central America and South America. Once the breeding season is over and they fly south for winter, their fidelity to each other is over and the bond with each other ends.

Pen & ink stained glass rendered by hand. A brilliant concept beautifully accomplished.
