Description
This is a male royal parrotfinch which is found in the islands of Vanuatu in Polynesia in the South Pacific. It is a fruit eater. The IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources) has categorized it as 'vulnerable', which means it is threatened with extinction unless some of the conditions that threaten it are improved. Behind it are red bananas. It is said that there are 17 varieties of bananas in the Vanuatu islands. The first bananas were brought to these islands 3,000 years ago when the first settlers came to the islands.
