Description
This is a pen and ink drawing made to look like stained glass. This is a cape canary that is found in South Africa and so is the blue butterfly bush shown here. This bird is a member of the finch family. It has a short cone shaped bill and is primarily a seed-eater. As a point to remember about birds and their bills, generally when you see the short conical shaped bill such as here, you can just about bet that it is primarily a seed-eater, as opposed to one that primarily eats insects, etc. I have also drawn a brimstone or bully canary that I am putting on FAA today that also lives in South Africa. The difference in the brimstone canary and the cape canary, is that the cape canary has a gray colored patch on the nape of the neck whereas the brimstone canary is colored yellowish-green on the nape of its neck.
